Blessing your Taonga

Blessing Your Taonga
Your taonga carries not only the beauty of the whenua it comes from, but also the energy of its journey. Taking a moment to cleanse and bless your piece is a meaningful way to connect with it and honour its story.
We recommend cleansing your taonga in fresh, running water - such as a river or stream. Avoid using ocean water as this may not align with traditional practices for all taonga.
1) Hold your taonga gently beneath the flowing water. As the water moves over it, imagine it washing away any energy it has gathered along the way, returning it to a pure and balanced state.
2) While holding your taonga, you may wish to recite a karakia or simply set a clear, heartfelt intention. This could be for protection, strength, connection, or whatever you feel called to bring into your life alongside your taonga.
If you would like to use a traditional protection karakia, here is a simple and widely used one:
Kia tau ngā manaakitanga
Ki runga i tēnei taonga
Hei ārahi, hei tiaki i ahau
I ngā wā katoa
Āmene
May blessings settle upon this taonga
To guide and protect me
At all times
Amen
There is no right or wrong way to do this - what matters most is your intention and the connection you create. Your taonga will continue to evolve with you, holding your story as you carry it.
