Uncover the Spirit of Kawakawa Jade

From the wild, windswept landscapes of New Zealand’s South Island West Coast emerges a rare and powerful taonga — Kawakawa Pounamu, prized for its deep, rich greens and spiritual significance.

This striking pendant is carved in the traditional hei matau (fish hook) form, symbolizing strength, prosperity, and safe passage over water. Flowing lines and elegant curves reflect the motion of the ocean, honouring the connection between people, nature, and the journey of life.

The stone itself reveals the signature beauty of Kawakawa jade — earthy, forest-toned greens with subtle inclusions that speak to the authenticity and origin of this ancient stone.

Hand-shaped with care and finished in a soft matte polish, this piece is designed to grow with you. Over time, it absorbs the natural oils of your skin, deepening in richness and forming a unique, personal patina.

Guest Artist - Leanne Hart, this piece reflects a deep reverence for tradition. Leanne’s work with South Island Nephrite Jade brings a soulful, ancestral energy to each creation.

Findings/Features:  - Hand-braided waxed polyester extendable cord.

Size: - 5 x 3cm

About Nephrite Jade

  • Possibly the most distinctive variety of pounamu, nephrite jade used to be more commonly known as greenstone. Although it appears all over the world, in New Zealand nephrite can only be found on the West Coast of Te Wai Pounamu (South Island) – the island that carries its name. Considered a taonga (treasure) nephrite is highly valued for the luminous green hue that carries in it the colour of the forests and rivers where it lives. The appearance and colour of nephrite can vary widely between smooth and uniform, or complex and multi-faceted with highlights of black, white, yellow and gold.

  • Nephrite jade possesses revitalizing energy and has been used by cultures all over the world to speed healing and bring balance to body and mind.
