"Own a piece of ancient New Zealand with this stunning sandy brown shell rock, dated by local geologists at 22 million years old.
This rock hails from the Waimate region on the South Island's East Coast and is a wondrous mix of seashells and history. This Waimate shell rock is one of only two East Coast stones we collect and carve. It allows you to hold a piece of New Zealand history in your hand."

About /history
Waimate district has fossils in miocene, greensand, and limestone deposits. A good site in the Haka Valley is near the limeworks, where many coral and shell fossils are lying around. Waihao Downs rocks were laid down 16 to 22 million years ago; and the Hakataramea is older, at 23 to 25 million years.
